Mendoza

Many top names have invested in Argentina recently – not least Moët et Chandon, who are behind the legendary Cheval des Andes – a Bordeaux-style red that unfailingly receives 90+ Parker Points. This luxurious, oak-aged Malbec is from the same stable.

In the last 20 years, Argentina has risen to become a great source for some of the world's finest wines. Moët et Chandon began research into the potential of Mendoza’s high-altitude vineyards in the 1950s and there set up their first estate outside France. After decades of experience in sparkling wine in the region, they opened Terrazas de los Andes, a winery dedicated to still wines, based in a renovated cellar that dates back to 1898. This is their fine Malbec, made from intensely flavoured old-vine fruit and part aged for 12 months in American oak barrels. It impressed critic James Suckling who scored it 94 points. It's a powerful, yet elegant wine, intense with rich red and black fruits and sweet smoky spices. Pair with a juicy steak.

"Plenty of black plum and tobacco, hints of crushed stone. Full-bodied, lots of fruit and richness" James Suckling
