The Boar Riesling 2018

Rheingau Qualitätswein

Temperatures have risen a few degrees over the decades in Germany's top vineyards. The upside is that its dry whites have never tasted better, especially when they are from Weingut Leitz. This is a delightfully crisp, lemon and lime scented white.

Weingut Josef Leitz is located in Rüdesheim, at the western end of the Rheingau. As the German Wine Guide notes, “Few in the Rheingau make finer wines than Leitz.” This family estate is run by Johannes Leitz, who took over what was then a 2.6 hectare property in 1985, aged just 21, and grew it to 43 hectares. It was the Rheingau that “established Germany’s reputation for world class white wines” (Hugh Johnson) and The Boar bears this out. Ironically its named after the wild boar that are far too fond of guzzling the grapes that ripen so perfectly on the south facing slopes of the vineyard. Chill down and enjoy this zesty, nicely poised, citrusy white on its own, or with gentle dishes of grilled fish, other seafood or tasty salads.

"The apogee of crisp, dry, citrusy Riesling from the outstanding Leitz – hugely refreshing" Kirsten Willis
