Villa Blanche is our top tip if you’re looking for a great value alternative to Burgundy. It’s made by Laurent Calmel and Jérôme Joseph in the Languedoc and over the last decade has won numerous awards, including a top spot in the ‘Chardonnay du Monde’ competition. The cellar has also won a top award from La Revue du Vin de France. This lovely, well balanced white is made from two tranches of grapes - one picked early for freshness, the other later for ripe fruit. For quality, it easily rivals many white Burgundies that sell for twice the price. With just a touch of oak, it's elegantly fragrant with aromas of peaches, nectarines, vanilla and almond. It’s a wonderful aperitif or the perfect companion to creamy pasta or fish pie.
