A breathtaking 13th century winery in the rolling hills of Tuscany provides the perfect home for this elegant, expressively fruit filled Chianti Classico. Castello di Vicchiomaggio's outstanding reputation is built on a meticulous attention to detail. All the work is carried out by hand and yields are kept low to produce grapes full of flavour. The wines are carefully matured in the cellars beneath the castle in traditional large Italian oak casks known as ‘botte’. Only the very best fruit makes it into John Matta’s Classico wines, where they are aged for a year in these oak bottes. From a good vintage, this red has silky ripe cherry, plum and redcurrant fruit, with hints of cedar. Open early, it’s ideal with bistecca alla Fiorentina.
