Domaine Bertagna Bourgogne Blanc Les Croix Blanches 2018

Bourgogne AOC

From a very small, family domaine, this is a first-class white Burgundy, punching above its weight. The grapes are from close to Nuits-Saint-George, while fermentation and ageing in oak barrel lends measured spice complexity to the bright fruit.

Founded in 1950 by Monsieur Bertagna, this fine domaine has gained an envious reputation. It lies in Vougeot and boasts 17 hectares of vines across a myriad of appellations, making 18 different wines, including eight Premiers Crus and six Grands Crus. In 1982, it was sold to Joseph Reh, whose family have been making wine in Germany's Rheinhessen for seven generations. Joseph had long had a love of Burgundy, buying them for his customers in Germany. He finally succumbed to his passion and bought this lovely property. His grand daughter, Eva, is now in charge. She has brought in organic practices and a gentle hand in the winemaking. Handpicked grapes, fermentation and part ageing in French oak lend the wine richness and finesse. A fine white.
