Our winemaker, Jean-Marc, was so impressed with the Merlot grapes from this special vineyard, that he reserved it all. The soils are purest limestone, which produces a claret that sings with velvety plum fruit and mocha notes. From a top vintage too.

Toinon is a superb vineyard that lies just across the Dordogne river from Saint Emilion and some of Bordeaux’s most famous Merlot appellations. It boasts pure calcaire (limestone) soils which, meticulously tended by one of Bordeaux’s most renowned families, produce Merlot grapes of excellent intensity and freshness. At harvest time, the grapes were of such exceptional quality our winemaker, Jean-Marc, insisted he took the lot. And for the first time, they crushed grapes at our cellar in Castillon, Le Chai au Quai. The result is this ripe, supple Bordeaux with its deep crimson hue, rich, opulent dark plum and cherry fruit and velvety rounded tannins. What's more, it's from the terrific 2020 vintage. Open early to enjoy all its ample fruit.
