Trinity Hill is an icon state of New Zealand and the first to recognise the potential of Hawke's Bay's now-prized Gimlett Gravels. It was the chance meeting of winemaker John Hancock with restaurant owners Robert and Robyn Wilson which resulted in a seed of an idea. That came to fruition in 1993 with the foundation of Trinity Hill. Even with their first-release 1997 vintage they won Trophies. Homage sits at the pinnacle of their range and is inspired by Gerard Jaboulet's magnificent Hermitage in the northern Rhône, where Hancock worked in 1996. Crafted from their oldest Syrah plantings and aged predominantly in new French oak barrels, this is a fine, perfumed, elegant red that makes wonderful drinking now and over the next few years.
