As the name suggests, these wines are the ultimate creations of Farnese, a cellar that has won Top Italian Winery in 2016, ’17 and ’19. For years they’ve delighted us with a rich, seductive red. This is the 98 point bright apricot and citrusy white.

Italy’s scenic Abruzzo is in the middle of nowhere. It's two-thirds mountainous, the rest is hills and coast, dotted with medieval villages, monasteries, Roman ruins and little else. It's also home to Farnese, Italy’s three times Winery of the Year. Tony pitched up there earlier this year with a nail through the tyre of his car. What should have been a quick, routine visit turned into a long delay. Fortuitous, as winemaker Valentino was putting the finishing touches to a luxury cuvée destined for Rome's top restaurants. It was a skilful blend of grapes, hand-picked from the best vineyard sites and tasted rich, fruity and elegant. By the time the car was repaired, Tony had persuaded Valentino to part with some. A prize white for fine dining.
