A remarkable, rich red from the Roussillon, showcasing the old vine treasures that survive in the region’s arid soils. It's the pride and joy of Jean-Charles Duran, who tends his old vineyards with a passion. Dense with velvety blackberry spice.

Jean-Charles Duran is a 4th generation grower, but the first to make wine. And that was only after he'd met Mark Hoddy from Le Chai au Quai. Mark was so bowled over by the power and intensity of J-C's old vine grapes, he made a red from them himself, then set about teaching J-C how. A few vintages later, J-C and his wife Céline have a tiny shed cellar at the bottom of the house in Roussillon's Maury, surrounded by their vineyards. The slate soils and gnarled old vines, buffeted by the Tramontane wind and scorched by the sun, produce yields as low as 8 hectolitres per hectare. Tiny. Famous Bordeaux names are now trying to buy land here. Aged for 15 months in new French oak, the wine has big, warming flavours to match with hearty meat dishes.
