Rioja can produce seriously rich, oaky reds for ageing, but this famous region also creates wines like Uvaris, the charm of which is its soft, delectable berry fruit with an appealing silky texture and not a glimmer of oak. When our Buyer for Spain, Beth, tasted it at the headquarters of the same team that is behind favourites Viña Nava and Palacio del Conde, she was seriously impressed and reserved as much as they’d allow. You’ll understand why when you pour yourself a glass: the wine is brimful of simple red berry fruit and is deliciously fresh, silky and easy – dangerously moreish. A real no-fuss red crafted from mostly Tempranillo with a portion of raspberry rich Garnacha, it’s suitable for all sorts of occasions, with or without food.
