Situated where the Rhône meets Provence at the foot of the imposing Mont Ventoux, this southern French region has been on top form in the last decade. Its red wines have “a kind of mountain coolness and freshness” according to award winning wine writer Andrew Jefford. Ventoux Sud takes its grapes from the commune of Mazan, on the southern slopes of the mountain. The altitude creates a freshness and balance in the wine which sets it apart from those grown on the plains. A blend of classic southern Rhône varieties, Grenache, Syrah and Carignan, has lent a distinct aromatic quality of blackcurrants and summer berries. Its silky texture means its lovely to drink on its own or with chicken, shish kebabs or couscous with roasted vegetables.
