Here’s a chance to snaffle yourself a taste of Bordeaux’s excellent, slow-maturing 2016 vintage that's now drinking very well. From former Pétrus winemaker Jean-Claude Berrouet, Vieux Château Saint André is ripe with mellow fruit. No need to cellar.

Beyond the Label
Rich, ripe and rounded, with black fruit, velvety tannins
Montagne is a Saint-Émilion ‘satellite’, a neighbouring village making wines that mirror the Saint-Émilion Grands Crus. Especially when they are made by Jean-Claude Berrouet, former winemaker at Pomerol's renowned Pétrus for years. Retiring from there, he bought his own estate in Montagne, a region that offers delicious, appealing wines of exceptional value, particularly in great classic vintages like 2016. His son, Jean-François, now assists him. Vieux Château Saint André is a classic combination of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, given a few months' ageing in barrel to ensure a smooth and harmonious cuvée. Stand the bottle upright for a couple of hours, so any sediment drops to the bottom, then decant and serve with roast lamb or beef.
"Proper 'grown-up' wine. Dark and a little smoky, nice and fruity in a restrained but dense way"
