Vigne del Malina Merlot 2011

Friuli Venezia Giulia IGT

Vigne del Malina produces "exceptional wines, expressive of the terroir", so beautifully made they will age for decades. This is a very rare opportunity to secure some of its mesmirisingly, 11-year-old estate Merlot, aged for three years in barrel.

The Vigne del Malina estate is situated in the prized Friulia-Venezia-Giulia of NE Italy. The region is renowned worldwide for wines with very pure fruit, intensity and elegance. That's certainly borne out by this magnificent red. The property's vineyards are planted in a very special spot, between two streams – the Malina and Ellero – which, together, draw the shape of a wine glass. It was a sign! Fine gravelly, alluvial soils, sunshine tempered by the two flows of water and the persistent Alpine winds all add to the excellence and the cellar's ability to be sustainable and eco-friendly. This impressive red was traditionally fermented and aged in barrel three years and the rest of the time in bottle. Already tasting superb, it'll also age.
