The fashionable city of Toulouse is known as ‘La Ville rose’ partly because of the bricks used in its buildings, but also from the elegant rosé Négrette that’s popular with locals. Négrette has been cultivated here for centuries and makes lovely supple reds and deep pinks. (In Australia, it’s known as Pinot Saint Georges.) Violette de Mireval is made from 100% Négrette by Nicole McPheeters from Arizona, who’s made wine acroos the globe – from Australia to Bordeaux. Looking to craft a modern rosé, she chose Négrette from award winning growers to create a vibrant, lively pink, rich in ripe summer berries, exotic fruit and citrus. Chill it down and serve as a delightful apéritif. It goes well too with all sorts of seafood or herby kebabs.
