Winemaker Vincent Grall has just 3.8 hectares of vines, making him the second smallest producer in Sancerre. This means he can lavish the sort of attention to detail on his wines that just isn’t possible for larger estates. He meticulously prunes back hard in winter and green harvests the vines in summer to limit yields. In addition, he nourishes the vines, always organically. All the grapes are hand picked and brought in small boxes to the winery which is located in his garage on the Sancerre hill. There’s no doubt it’s worth all the extra effort. With elegant citrus fruits, hints of wild flowers and delicate minerality, this wine can be enjoyed chilled in a glass by itself, but it’s a real treat with oysters or simply grilled fish.
