A “viticultural garden of Eden” (Decanter), Chile produces some of the best value wines in the world. And this ‘fresh as a daisy’ Carmenère epitomises all that’s great about this fabulous wine country, delivering glorious ripe fruit and complexity too. Carmenère is a variety that fell out of favour at home in Bordeaux as it had a tendency to ripen late – occasionally not at all. However, in Chile’s winemaking paradise it ripens to perfection, year in, year out, and is today regarded as a national treasure. This classic example hails from the vineyards of Luis Felipe Edwards – a long established family winery with an enviable reputation for quality. Expect bright, upfront red fruit with spicy, green pepper notes – ideal with veggie kebabs.
