The Wine
Jean Monnier is a seventh generation domaine, whose wine quality is outstanding. Parker described them as "an estate whose wines I recommend with much enthusiasm", yet amazingly the prices remain very reasonable. Founded in 1720, the estate is run today by Jean-Claude and Nicolas Monnier. The limestone soils and old vines of the property yield a definitive style of Meursault – rich, generous and ripe with a lean, mineral streak of acidity. A classic structure, with hidden depths. Using all hand harvested grapes from this fine vintage, the 2020 was first fermented, then aged 15 months in barrel to produce a wine of great complexity and finesse. No rush with this wine. Serve in large-bowled glasses, with fine white meat or fish dishes.
"The 2020 white Burgundies clearly number among the very best produced in the last two decades"
William Kelley
