Il Cacciatore del Tartufo, otherwise known as ‘the truffle hunter’, is from Umbria, one of Italy’s most beautiful regions. Its stunning hilltop towns and enchanting countryside rival those of next-door Tuscany and once you have tried the food and wine, you will wonder why this region ever languished in its neighbour’s shadow.
One of Umbria’s most celebrated delicacies is the black truffle. Norcia, a town on the edge of Umbria, is the home of these ‘black diamonds’. Like the region’s famous truffles, the wines of Umbria are well worth hunting out, in particular, those of Torgiano
Made predominantly from Sangiovese this is a velvety red that combines juicy fruits with a delicious peppery spice
Subtle oak ageing in barrels adds a savoury twist and lovely balance
Tasting note: Il Cacciatore del Tartufo is typically Italian in style, combining earthy red cherries with sweet spices, plums and dried fruit. The blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and local grape Canaiolo are left to mature in oak barrels to mellow and soften creating a harmonious palate with a long, satisfying finish.
