Alta Sada Garnacha 2019

Navarra DO

This power packed, old vine Garnacha is from a winery founded in 1939 in Navarra’s Baja Montaña region. Crafted from the intensely flavoured grapes of ancient, low yielding vines grown high on a windswept plain, this is a dense, raspberry rich red.

Ernest Hemingway would have loved Alta Sada Garnacha, as it’s just the sort of wine he would have chosen to drink in the bars of Pamplona. Our Buyer Beth is passionate about Spanish wines and Hemingway’s novels. She ventured to one of northeast Spain’s wildest wine regions to discover the ancient Garnacha vineyard behind this iconic red. Here the average age of the vines is 70 years and some are a century old. Bodega de Sada winery is hardly known abroad yet makes amazing wines, thanks in part to winemaker María Eransus, who worked for years with the legendary Telmo Rodríguez – one of the top names in Spain. Packed with powerful raspberry and cracked pepper flavours, Alta Sada is a perfect choice with chorizo, chickpea and tomato casserole.
