Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatieres AOC

Typical of Charton’s Folatières, this is wonderfully pronounced, and shows great drive. It’s known for being a vineyard that produces big, rich and spicy wines and this conformed to type. Spicy, toasty and full-bodied, with a sense of savouriness.

The Wine
Cooper craftsman Jean-Edouard Dupard set up this superb domaine in 1859, and it was he who, as mayor of Puligny in 1873, made the decision that Montrachet – the region’s most prestigious vineyard – be added to the village name (Puligny). Neighbouring Chassagne soon followed suit. Domaine Jean Chartron has been run by five generations, with current owner Jean-Michel Chartron continuing his family’s great legacy. Praise from the critics pours in. Over the years they’ve built up vineyards, much of it in the finest Premier and Grand Cru locations. Most of their vines have great maturity too, the oldest over 70 years, all treated organically. This is a very fine, Premier Cru Puligny, intense, poised, full-bodied and savoury.
