Pessac-Leognan AOC

James Suckling was bowled over by this wine, "Wow", "full and powerful". Wine Advocate described it as "concentrated and layered, textured and elegant". This terrific vintage celebrates the 40th vinification. It'll reward considerable cellaring.

Pessac-Léognan is rare in having its reputation built on both reds and whites, and Domaine de Chevalier produces top wines in both. Olivier Bernard took over the estate in 1983 (he was just 23) and the family invested heavily. Today the pay off is evident and it is a leading estate of Bordeaux. Mostly Cabernet, a quarter Merlot, with just 5% Petit Verdot, aged 35% new French oak, it has been very well received by critics. “Olivier Bernard and his team have crafted an outstanding wine,” (Wine Advocate), “incredibly structured and powerful with ultra-fine tannins that are tight and layered" wrote James Suckling, giving them a near perfect score. So powerful, muscular and structured, it's certainly a wine to tuck away for a decade or two.

"Full and powerful with carved muscles of tannins. This will need so much time" James Suckling
