The Story Behind the Bottle
The Dr. Loosen estate has been in the same family for over 200 years and has vines in some of Germany’s best-rated vineyards. Located in far western Germany, the Mosel valley’s steep, south facing slopes create the perfect climate for Riesling. Plenty of sun combined with the cool climate allows the grapes to ripen slowly while retaining bright acidity. This dry Riesling is produced with fruit from estate-owned vineyards in the red slate soils. Following the traditional methods of Ernst Loosen’s great-grandfather, this wine is fermented in 3,000-liter, neutral oak casks and kept on the full lees for 12 months. The result is a beautiful fruit filled Riesling with plenty of zest and spice. Ideal with grilled chicken and mild cheeses.
