Pilferer Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Marlborough

New Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc from the superstar region for the grape, Marlborough. The grapes are so delicious, pesky Rosella parrots like to take their share. Protected grapes means the wine is saved, here packed with passion fruit and nettle flavours.

Rosella parrots might be very colourful, pretty (just look at the label!) and characterful, but they are far too fond of grapes. Ripe grapes as well, just as they are ready for harvest. So producers are forced to net their vineyards. It's a tough job in the heat, but with terrific wines like this, we think it's more than worth it. Pilferer is a classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Lots of exuberant, ripe fruit – guava, passion fruit, cut grass, nettles – in both the aroma and the taste. All that ripeness elegantly undercut by crisp citrus freshness and a mineral note. Chill the wine down, it makes a terrific glass on its own. It'll also match well with all sorts of seafood – from grilled fish to prawns with spicy salsa – or creamy pasta.
