Reichsrat Von Buhl was established in 1849 and has been ranked among Germany’s finest estates ever since. Von Buhl has always been considered among Germany’s very best wineries and at the turn of the century their wines fetched higher prices than top Bordeaux and Burgundy bottlings Since 2013, the winemaker at this prestigious estate is the equally prestigious Matthieu Kauffman, cellar master at Bollinger Champagne for 12 years. He’s the first ‘chef de cave’ to resign from Bollinger rather than retire which gives you an idea of just how excited he was about making Riesling at Von Buhl Germany has long been known for producing the finest Riesling in the world but these days, its reds are giving Burgundians something to think about . We’d urge all Pinot Noir fans to give this smart Spätburgunder (aka Pinot Noir) a try. It is very elegant with sublime cherry and redcurrant notes, delicate fine oak and a silky, smooth texture.
