Roche de Bellene is the craftsmanship of Nicolas Potel, who learned from his renowned father Gérard, studied in Beaune, then gained experience at top addresses in Australia and California. His father's early death meant the family estate had to be sold and Nicolas had to build from nothing. At his new enterprise Nicolas has 18 hectares of vines in some of the finest locations. In addition, he sources top-quality, old-vine grapes to make exceptional wines that are intense and expressive. Champ Gain stands apart from much of Puligny for its elevation and soils, and results in wine with vibrant minerality and citrus elegance. From a year with wines that are "charming, full of fruit yet with great energy too" (J Robinson), this is a fine white.
