The Story Behind the Bottle
Kiwi Sauvignon may already be a national phenomenon, but there’s a tiny region in North Island's Hawke's Bay which is very serious about Bordeaux style reds and Syrah. Gimblett Gravels is New Zealand’s Grand Cru region, lauded as “a sacred site” by Australia’s No.1 wine critic James Halliday, and most certainly where you’ll find some of New Zealand’s best reds. Especially from an award winning winery like Saint Clair. Founded in 1994 by Judy and Neal Ibbotson, they have won Golds since their first release. Their latest triumph was the 2019 Sydney Perpetual Trophy. Their superb Syrah is elegant, complex, with perfectly evolved black fruit richness thanks to time in barrel and bottle. Savour with grilled meats or a hearty casserole.
