The Barossa Valley is prime real-estate for the bold flavours of Shiraz. Here the climate mimics that of the Mediterranean and Shiraz flourishes. Black Label is a fruit-forward, vanilla-spiced red from a multi-award-winning, family-run winery, Salena Estate. Husband and wife, Bob and Sylvia Franchitto, set up shop in 1998 naming their cellar after their daughter Salena. Today they are the largest producers of organic wine in Oz. Specialising in top-shelf Shiraz, this is a real lip-smacking Aussie red. Armed with great grapes, the latest state-of-the-art kit and classic techniques, they've made a wine, big on taste. 12 months ageing in French oak lends subtle toasted spice notes to the wealth of ripe mulberry and dark plum. Bring on the bbq!
