The Story Behind the Bottle
Few estates boast a history and splendour quite like Castello della Sala. It's located in Umbria, close to the Tuscan border and the historic city of Orvieto, and was built in 1350 by Angelo Monaldeschi della Vipera whose family arrived in Italy four centuries earlier. The property extends over 600 hectares on gently rolling hillsides – and with soils rich in fossil shells and excellent sun exposure, it's the perfect place to grow Chardonnay and Grechetto (a little is used in the blend). Cervaro della Sala 2024 opens with notes of pink grapefruits accompanied by floral hints of elderflowers and chamomile, followed by delicate aromas of vanilla, pastry cream and a hint of flint, a distinctive characteristic of Chardonnay grown in vineyards on the Castello della
Sala estate. The palate is taut, elegant with notes of toasted almonds, white pepper and ginger. The savoury texture is well-balanced by exceptional freshness. Beautiful young but will benefit from a few years in the bottle.
