The Story Behind the Bottle
The Black Duck Durif is made by award-winning winemaker Sam Trimboli – he makes some of our best-loved Australian wines. We’ve known him for over 30 years, during which time he developed an obsession with Durif, calling it a “stunning little powerhouse grape that develops astounding complexity”. The Durif grapes for this wine come from a small vineyard that Sam helped establish in the 1980s – now at peak maturity. Full-bodied and well-rounded, the wine brims with layers of ripe, dark fruits and toasty spice. Aged for eight months in American and French oak to enhance complexity, it offers a gloriously long finish. A warming glass solo, Black Duck is even better when paired with char-grilled steak, hearty casseroles or strong cheeses.
