The original Black Saint Peter is our No.1 Zinfandel and the Reserve is the even richer, more luxurious edition. It hails from Lodi, a region of California, where “winemakers have quietly started producing some of the state’s best wines” (vinepair.com). More importantly for Zinfandel fans, Lodi is home to many of California’s oldest Zinfandel vines, affectionately called ‘Black Saint Peters’. These gnarled heirlooms yield precious little fruit, but the grapes are exceptionally concentrated and packed full of flavour. Crafted from old-vine Zinfandel and aged for six months in oak, Black Saint Peter Reserve marks a serious step up from the original. Layers of velvety black plum, cherry, fig and spice notes, it’s luxuriously rich and long.
