Flavour Profile
Elegant, rich and filled with juicy fruit, Caroso Montepulciano Riserva is a delightful example of a style that’s rarely seen outside of Italy.
The Abruzzo is one of the loveliest regions of Italy. It lies on the central eastern coast, where the sea and the mountains meet. Its top red grape is Montepulciano, renowned for being deliciously supple and easy-drinking, as well as great value.
This Riserva shows how the best wines can age magnificently too. Crafted from 100% Montepulciano, hand-picked from vines between 30-40 years old, it is rich with deep cherry and plum fruit, oaky spice and liquorice hints. As a Riserva, it must be aged for a minimum of two years – of which six months must be in barrel. This has had much longer – two years in oak – with extended bottle ageing too.
It makes an excellent choice with strong cheeses, truffle or mushroom risotto or with roast meats and borlotti bean stew.
