The Story Behind the Bottle
Since Roman times, the chalky clay soils of Cahors have produced sturdy, long-lived Malbec wines. The Romans quickly saw that the region’s production surpassed what they were making in Italy and soon the wines of Cahors were being enjoyed throughout the empire. Today, Cahors is still renowned for the quality of its big, rich reds made from Malbec, the grape that originated there and was hijacked by Argentina. This historic property was bought in 1974 by the Queen of Denmark, whose husband, His Royal Highness Prince Henrik of Denmark, is a native of the region. Together they have restored this beautiful historic estate. Malbec with 10% Merlot, part aged in new oak, this is a fine wine, best served with hearty casseroles or roast red meats.
