Château de Courlat Cuvée Jean Baptiste 2020
Top cuvée from this château, considered one of the best of this Saint Emilion satellite. It has the dense fruit, depth and structure that will enable it to age for a decade plus. A superb Right Bank claret for cellaring, already with 91-92 points.

The Story Behind the Bottle
Owned by the Bourotte family (who also have Clos de Clocher and Château Bonalgue in Pomerol), Château du Courlat is one of the most highly regarded estates in Saint Emilion's Lussac satellite. Jean Baptiste is currently at the helm, great grandson of the founder, also Jean Baptiste, after which this flagship cuvée is named. Established in 1906, this fine property boasts 17 hectares of vines, with a hallowed four on the finest terroir dedicated to this particular wine. Pure Merlot from these slopes, gently vinified and aged for 20 months in one third new oak, this is a perfumed, luscious, velvety, ripe claret with a core of ripe fruit, savoury tones, freshness and firm tannins. It will age magnificently. Best to tuck away for a few years.
