The Wine
Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley isn’t the easiest place in the world to make wine, but it is one of the most remarkable. The vineyards at Château Ksara lie at over 1,000 metres above sea level. At such high elevation, the sunlight is more intense, and the nights are crisper, which translates into incredible ripeness and complexity of flavour. Château Ksara is also Lebanon’s oldest winery, founded in 1857 by Jesuit monks and Le Prieuré, or The Priory, is a nod to its monastic roots. A blend of Carignan, Cinsault, Mourvèdre and Grenache – all handpicked – it’s reminiscent of Rhône reds with plenty of red berry fruit, wild herbs, liquorice and spice.
