Flavour Profile
Tuscany is home to one of Italy’s most famous red wines, Chianti. Complex and delicately spicy, these wines are perfect for both food and wine lovers, and Paolo Masi’s Collezione di Paolo Chianti Riserva is one of our favourites.
Paolo is an award-winning winemaker who has been delighting fans with his great value, handcrafted Tuscan reds for 30 years. Founded in 1930 by Paolo’s grandfather, the Masi estate rests high on a hill, overlooking the Argomenna valley in the heart of Rufina. The family has been making premium Tuscan wines there ever since, respecting the traditions and regulations of the classic local style while still exploring alternative blends and techniques.
Paolo’s flagship Chianti Riserva soars above the rest, thanks to his meticulous methods and the estate’s exceptional location. Produced only in the best vintages, it is made with carefully selected grapes from the oldest vines in the estate’s best vineyards, harvested a week or so later than normal for more concentrated, intensely flavoured grapes.
The Riserva is aged in oak barriques for up to 18 months and a further six months in bottle before release, developing even greater depth and complexity.
The result is a full-bodied, silky red wine brimming with rich plum and dark berry flavours and subtle oak spice. It makes an ideal partner for roasted game, braised red meats and mature cheeses.
