Nebbiolo is the prized grape of Piedmont and its top red, Barolo. These wines tend to be highly priced and take a few years to mature and open out. It’s from Monferrato, a hilly area in the southeast corner of Piedmont, the soils of which lend a freshness and elegance to its wines. It grows many native varieties, but its most prized is Nebbiolo. The winemaker is Marco Cossaro, who makes both the fine Barolos and this younger, fresher Nebbiolo for the Sartirano family.
