The Story Behind the Bottle
For lovers of racy white wines, Côte de Cristal Piquepoul is a must-try. It’s from southern France’s Languedoc region, where demand for Picpoul de Pinet has soared in recent years. While the official AOC wines are made in tiny quantities and snapped up quickly for export, savvy locals have long enjoyed the same zesty style for less. It’s made from the same grape (spelled Piquepoul locally), but grown just outside the official Picpoul de Pinet zone, in the tiny appellation of Côtes de Thau. You won’t see ‘Pinet’ on the label – but you’ll still get all the fresh, citrusy character that you love. Light and crisp, expect vibrant grapefruit and citrus flavours. Delicious on its own – and a superb match for seafood, especially oysters.
