Flavour Profile
Chassagne-Montrachet is home to some of the world’s greatest whites. Made – like almost all white Burgundies – from pure Chardonnay, they balance ripe tropical fruit and creamy richness with refined, mineral freshness.
Joseph Colin is one of the region’s rising stars. He has a small vineyard holding of just 6.5 hectares (18 acres), mainly in Saint-Aubin and Chassagne. He takes a minimal-intervention approach – interfering as little as possible in the winemaking process to let the wine’s pure expression of its terroir shine through.
Although his estate isn’t certified biodynamic or even organic, Joseph avoids using chemicals in the vineyard and plans his winemaking year according to the lunar and tidal calendars. Does it make a difference? We can’t say – but his attention to detail certainly shines through in the quality of the wines.
Joseph Colin Chassagne-Montrachet 2023 has superb precision and focus, with a saline minerality on the long, persistent finish.
