Flavour Profile
Bright, crisp and wonderfully lively, Cava is Spain’s sparkling answer to Champagne. And if you’re looking for one that overdelivers on both quality and value, then Dominio de Los Duques is a superb example.
While the majority of Cava is produced in and around Catalonia, this elegant cuvée is from a pioneering producer just to the south – near Valencia on Spain’s eastern coast. It’s crafted by Vicente García, a hugely talented and widely respected winemaker.
Vicente is somewhat of a hero in the region. When Catalan growers fought to restrict the term ‘Cava’ to their own wines, they offered to make an exception just for him. Instead, he chose to fight for the rights of other small growers in his region. And he won.
Thanks to Vicente, Cava is now made in over 150 wine regions throughout Spain. His home town of Requena, just 40 miles from Valencia, is renowned for producing some of the country’s finest Cava.
For this wine, Vicente blends Macabeo, Xarel-lo and Chardonnay using the same traditional method as Champagne. This fine sparkler was then aged for 12 months in bottle to ensure richness and complexity.
In the glass, expect tiny bubbles, a refreshing stone fruit character and elegant floral notes. Serve chilled and enjoy solo or with tapas.
