The Story Behind the Bottle
Dönnhoff is one of the finest, most exciting family estates of Germany's Nahe. Dating back to 1750, it was headed up until recently by the founder's grandson Helmut Dönnhoff. Helmut’s son, Cornelius, is now winemaker and has "bottled probably the best wine series in the history of the domaine" said Wine Advocate's Stephen Reinhardt. The family is proud to own some of the best vineyards in all Nahe, including the Grosse Gewächs Felsenberg. It’s like a mountain of red volcanic hardstone comprising porphyry and melaphyre, almost as hard as diamonds. This soil gives the wine its body, structure and freshness. Six months on full lees and two more on fine lees lend this dry Riesling roundness and weight. Very fine indeed. Best cellared.
