Flavour Profile
Blewitt Springs is not on the tourist trail but it’s well known to McLaren Vale winemakers. A little higher up, it benefits from cooling breezes off the nearby Gulf St Vincent, allowing grapes to ripen slowly and retain plenty of freshness. Dowie Doole The Banker Cabernet Sauvignon is a delicious example of this, balancing juicy dark fruit and warm spices with tantalising freshness.
In 1995 Dowie Doole’s founders, Drew Dowie and Norm Doole, realised the potential of their Blewitt Springs and Tatachilla vineyards – two of McLaren Vale’s most prized areas – and formed a partnership. Nurturing these two terroirs through biodynamic farming and sustainable practices, they set out to produce wines that capture the character of where they’re grown.
Made with grapes from Drew Dowie’s original Blewitt Springs vineyard, from vines up to 60 years old, this characterful red wine is matured in a mix of new and seasoned oak barrels before bottling. It offers lifted aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry and dried herbs, followed by juicy black fruit, cocoa and warm spice flavours and lingering freshness. An ideal red to enjoy alongside roast beef, hearty stews or rich pasta dishes.
