The Story Behind the Bottle

Native to southwest France, Tannat can be a tricky grape to work with, but Uruguay has cracked the code! Faro del Plata Tannat Cabernet is a delicious example of the supple, juicy reds Uruguay is producing.

Tannat makes up 25% of Uruguay's plantings – it's the only country in the world to adopt the variety as its flagship grape. Its thick skins produce too much tannin in most climates, but here it suits the Atlantic-cooled vineyards perfectly. From a winery awarded the 'World's Best Tannat', this is a fabulous new find.

It hails from the family’s coastal vineyards, surrounded by meadows and lies close to the Rio de la Plata, a spectacular estuary that flows into the Atlantic. The grapes are all picked by hand and the Tannat is aged in oak barrels, before adding a splash of Cabernet Sauvignon. The result is a silky, supple red with juicy plum and blackcurrant fruit, perfect for barbecues and with grilled meats.
