The Spirit
For 20 years William Grant nurtured a dream to make the ‘best dram in the valley’. With the help of his family, he finally achieved that vision in 1886, building a distillery by hand, stone by stone. That was just half a mile north of Dufftown, his birthplace. He named it Glenfiddich, Gaelic for Valley of the Deer. He had a good team on hand to help – seven sons and two daughters! Today, Glenfiddich is just as pioneering, as well as remaining true to its traditions. It is also one of the few single malt distillers still to be entirely family owned, plus they use the same original spring water that flows through the valley. It’s a classic, lightly malty 12-year-old Speyside Single Malt with butterscotch and pear notes.
