Flavour Profile
Greywacke was founded in 2009 by Kevin Judd – the first winemaker of Cloudy Bay – a pioneer of New Zealand’s wine industry who helped put Marlborough firmly on the world wine map.
Greywacke Pinot Noir is named after the soil of his first vineyard, which was littered with the local greywacke stones. Kevin works with independent, family growers with mature vineyards to ensure the highest-quality fruit, then leases a small part of his friends’ Dog Point winery to craft them. As you’d expect in Marlborough, he majors on Sauvignon and Pinot Noir.
For this elegant red, Kevin selects grapes largely from the Yarrum vineyard in Southern Valleys, ageing the wine in French oak barrels for 11 months to gather a panoply of complexity. Fragrant with cedar-like spice and beautiful silky fruit, it's a glass of pure pleasure on its own or with duck or mushroom risotto.
