The Story Behind the Bottle
A small subregion of California’s much-admired Napa Valley, Mount Vedeer has gained worldwide acclaim for its exceptional, long-lived wines. Many of them fetch well over £100 a bottle. There, Cabernet Sauvignon is king (accounting for 78% of its vineyards), a grape that features in this red, along with other Bordeaux ‘friends’. The eponymous Mount Vedeer reaches its peak at 825 metres and its highest vineyards lie just below it, on southwest-facing slopes. At this altitude, days are bright and sunny, with strong afternoon winds and nights that are chilly. So, grapes ripen slowly gathering deep flavour, sleek tannins and freshness. All this makes for a cellar-worthy red – an ace partner to steak or roast red meats. Open early and decant.
