The Story Behind the Bottle
Among the rolling southfacing slopes of the prestigious Stellenbosch winelands, cooled by constant coastal breezes, lies the boutique winery, Journey’s End. They not only make outstanding wines, but are also very community minded. Their range, however, is small, with the emphasis very much on premium, handcrafted wines of quality. This is their 2020 Chardonnay, using cool grown fruit and treated to all the Grand Cru methods. Wild yeasts, fermentation in French oak barrels, lees stirring and nine months ageing in cask – all the methods used for fine Burgundy. This is a layered, complex wine, a delicious balance of bright citrus, tropical fruit and savoury oak tones. A white to savour on its own, or pair with salmon en croûte or chicken pie.
