Flavour Profile
La Cuadrilla de Sobreño hails from Toro – a region that’s been making wine for centuries but has only recently started getting recognition for its juicy, fruit-packed red wines.
The region sits northwest of Madrid in Castilla y León, where winters are bitterly cold and summers scorchingly hot. Wines here used to be very high in alcohol (up to 16%), but producers now pick earlier to craft delicious, balanced, fruit-driven styles.
This great-value red comes from Bodegas Sobreño, a family-owned cellar founded in the 1990s. Winemaker Oscar Martín leads the charge and has a cabinet full of awards to show for it.
It’s made from Tinto del Toro – a local strain of Tempranillo with thicker skins that shrug off the summer heat. Expect generous black and cherry fruit in a hearty red that’s spot-on with comfort dishes – think shepherd’s pie or sausage and mash.
