The Story Behind the Bottle
Les Hauts de Saint Jean is an appetising white from southern France. The appellation is Picpoul de Pinet, very close to the Med and Etang de Thau, with its picturesque pink flamingos. The winemaker is Théo Alcaraz, who learnt from his father, David, a wine consultant. David bought the estate in 2015, restoring the ancient buildings that date back to 1837. In fact, the estate existed further down the hill in the 14th century, but due to flooding, was moved higher. Horses used to be its main focus, hence the stables and the small statue at the building’s peak. Pure Picpoul grown just a pebble’s throw from the Med, the wine has sea breeze freshness, with zesty citrus and pear notes. A perfect apéritif or partner with fish and lighter dishes.
