The Story Behind the Bottle
Luciani is a historic family estate near the hilltop town of Montalcino. The buildings date back to the 1200s, and until the 1930s, all the land belonged to the church. Alberto Luciani – whose nephew, Arturo, painted the pictures that still adorn the walls – bought the estate in 1888, unaware of just how precious this land would become for wine. Now seven generations in, winemaking is in the hands of Francesco Luciani. He works traditionally in the cellar, using hand-picked grapes from the family’s organic vineyards. Aged for three years in large Slavonian oak barrels, this Brunello is a joy now – and will reward patience in the cellar, too.
