The Story Behind the Bottle
For around 600 years, the Schnaitmann family have been cultivating wine grapes in the area, but the winery’s story began far more recently. At the end of the 1980s, young architecture student Rainer Schnaitmann was inspired to leave his studies and try his hand at viticulture. He graduated from renowned Geisenheim University, worked across the world, before returning home to lease three hectares of vineyards. That was in 1997 and so the first wines under the family label were produced. Rainer strives for distinctive wines and in 2006 the winery became the youngest to join the ranks of Germany’s quality-driven VDP classification. Bottled unfiltered, this Riesling is delicious now and will continue to develop over the next decade.
